Pharmacodynamics:
Iron(III) hydroxide polymaltose complex is non-toxic, due to the fact that an active transport of iron or a rate determining competitive ligand exchange instead of passive diffusion process is assumed to occur. In contrast, the absorption of Ferrous Salts is not controlled by a respective feed back mechanism even in normal or iron loaded subjects, and therefore, adverse drug reactions may occur especially when administering several doses a day.
