The Colonia Cage System

With the new system for family housing of Breeders, the best results with regard to environment, quality and health can be achieved. A large work saving is possible.

The Colonia Cage system has been developed for small group of hens and cocks that can be kept in separate units. No more gathering of floor eggs is necessary with this system. In each colonia cage the birds are provided with all life necessities: light, feed, water and fresh air.

Number of birds

Broiler parents
40 females + 4 males @ 0.96 sq.feet
(138 sq.inches) per bird
Layer Parents
60 females + 6 males @ 0.64 sq.feet
(92 sq.inches) per bird

Vencomatic (2C) Slat-Grill

The Vencomatic (2C) Slat-Grill floor ensures a fixed base. The manure falls directly through the openings on to the manure belts or in the manure pits. Because the birds consume less feed than in traditional floor system (7 to 10%) the mineral emissions are considerably less. The hens have access to a separate laying nests fitted with Vencomatic mats. The laid eggs roll on to the egg belt or egg collection channel.

The 2C Venco slat is a special plastic developed for the colonia cage system. The soft surface on the top reduces the amount of damaged eggs, prevents feet damage and increases animal welfare (optimum welfare).

They can be cleaned using high pressure water.

The Laying Nest

The laying nest is easily accessible to the hen and is fitted with Venco-mat. This is a soft, natural floor-covering with a long life span. Very easy to clean and ideal for the egg.

Advantages in comparison with traditional housing systems

  • Solid and animal friendly construction
  • Feed saving between 7 to 10% which gives a reduction in manure quantity and reduction in the mineral emissions
  • Less chance of illness and less chance of contamination
  • No artificial insemination as the mating is natural
  • No floor eggs and better hatching-egg quality
  • Reduced damaged eggs
  • Automatic feeding and drinking system
  • Extensive automation through which work is kept to a minimum
  • Lowering of cost price of the hatching-egg, achieving a maximum return from capacity increase and hatching-egg quality
  • Can be installed in multi-tiers with automatic egg collection and manure transportation system
  • The support structure is made of high zinc coated steel and can be adjusted for height. The laying nest system has been designed as assembly kits so as to occupy a minimum amount of space during transport
  • A recommendation for the most ideal house layout will made based on the width of the type and number of birds on the floor.
  • For Automatic egg collection (optional) the Venco-belt transport system (optional) offers many advantages. The Venco-belt is a quick, clean, user-friendly and especially egg-friendly transport system that ensures transport from various locations to a central collection point.
