Dr. B. V. Rao Institute of Poultry Management and Technology , Uruli Kanchan , Pune , India , an unique Institute in this part of the world , is a non-profit organization. It was set up to provide sound theoretical and comprehensive practical training in Poultry Management on modern and scientific lines to existing and prospective poultry farmers,entrepreneurs , veterinarians and other poultry professionals to carry out Applied Research , to reduce cost of production and increase return. Emphasis on practical poultry management , economics , personnel/material management and marketing is the basis of training.Trainees spend only 25% of their time in class rooms and 75% in Poultry Farms, Feed Mill , Laboratories etc. for hands-on-the-job training.

Dr. B. V. Rao, after whom the Institute is named , was a visionary, who realized that if modern poultry farming were to succeed, not only theoretical, but hands-on-the job training has to go hand in hand. The Institute, sponsored by All India Poultry Development and Services Ltd. (AIPDS) and Venkateshwara Hatcheries Group, the largest integrated Poultry group in Asia, was established in the year 1985 and commenced training activities from the year 1987.
